Beach Trip
We couldn't wait to introduce Emily to one of our all-time favorite places. So, for David's birthday, we decided to take a family trip to the beach. We hung out and ate lunch in the sand, then went down to the water to get our feet wet. It was a little cold & windy, but what a great afternoon!

The Results are in...
While I hate the dreaded "shot day", I really love seeing how much Emily is growing. For her 6 month visit, she weighed in at 14 lbs, 5 oz (15%) and measured 26 inches (50%). Go girl!
We've also had a new discovery this week...straws! Lately, Emily has been very curious about what we've been drinking. She grabs at our glasses & brings it to her mouth like she's going to take a sip. Mostly, she just ends up chewing the edge of the glass, and getting water all over herself. So, we were at a restaurant, and she wanted to take a sip from my glass, so I let her give the straw a try.
This was the second or third time she tried. We think the water was a little too cold for her (so it seemed to surprise her each time), but she kept going back for more!

Top of the Morning to Ya!
My plan is working...I think Emily is finally turning into a morning person, despite all of David's hard work to make her a night owl.

Soups On
With the coming of Emily's 1/2 birthday, came her next huge milestone - EATING! A few tears were shed (by Mom, not Emily) because this seems like such a huge deal. It's really beginning to hit us that our little gal is growing up.
We started her off with rice cereal. Yum! The first few bites, she mostly chewed on the spoon instead of actually eating. And, she let Mom feed her the first time, but now she actually grabs at the spoon to feed herself. Such an independant little lady! And, she babbles & talks the whole time we feed her. It makes me laugh, so I'll worry later about whether she's developing bad habits of talking with her mouth full.

6 Months Old
Emily's 1/2 birthday happened to fall on Monday, which meant that we all got to spend the entire day together. One of Emily's all-time favorite things is dueling & simultaneous attention from Mom & Dad, so she was super excited.
The day started off with an early morning wake-up call at 6:00am (courtesy of Emily), which prompted a morning coffee run...in jammies, of course.
Then, we took her monthly photo, which was lots of fun again. At this point, we've figured out what sounds & toys make her laugh. I feel like Dad can always make her laugh, though. She's also super ticklish, so that's always a sure thing.

Soon after we started snapping photos, she realized there was something crinkly & within reach, so we lost all hope for any more pictures. She's gotten so curious & grabs EVERYTHING in sight, which usually goes right into her mouth. Lately, she's been loving those cool teething toys straight out of the fridge, so maybe some teeth are on the way...
Then, it was off to a BBQ where she got to take a quick dip in the kiddie pool.
And a dance party with friends to end the evening!

Hats Off to Labor Day Weekend!
Ahhh...gone are the days when Emily happily wears those cute little hats we plop on her head. She's been practicing this for about a week & finally figured out how to grab a hold of her hat long enough to get it off. And the battle begins...
Here are some more shots from our lazy Saturday afternoon at the park (just the 3 of us)

Excuse the funny faces from both of us here. The wind was blowing our hair all over the place.

New Skills
It seems like Emily is mastering something new every day. It's hard to keep up. Her latest skills include:
Standing (assisted, of course) & grabbing whatever is in front of her. This time it happened to be mom & the camera.

Sitting up on her own. Still a little wobbly...

Biking. She's still working on this one too...
